What happened
On 12 September, Tibo Thsottiaux said that a Codex usage reset had fully propagated. The underlying post is preserved as the primary source, while ModelYard records the event as directly verified through the X API.
The completion message followed an earlier update aimed at Astra users in which Tibo said a reset was coming and described several quality problems the team had been investigating. Taken together, the two posts establish a clear sequence: a reset was announced, then Tibo later said the rollout had completed.
What the reset changes
OpenAI’s current usage documentation says ChatGPT Work and Codex share an allowance that can include both five-hour and weekly windows. An automatic reset refreshes the eligible usage limits specified for that reset, while a banked reset is saved until a user applies it or it expires.
That distinction matters because a reset restores allowance rather than permanently increasing a plan’s limits. A user can therefore receive a reset, return to normal use, and later hit the ordinary five-hour or weekly limit again.
Context from the Astra rollout
OpenAI separately documents banked resets issued to eligible Plus, Pro and Business users on 3 and 4 September, plus an automatic global reset on 7 September during the Astra rollout. The help documentation does not currently describe the 12 September event in the same level of detail, so Tibo’s post remains the strongest direct evidence for that later reset.
The reset also arrived amid reports of Astra quality problems. Tibo’s preceding update said the team had found issues involving older skills triggering too aggressively and an opt-in context-management experiment that could cause early stops or replies to older messages. He said the experiment had been disabled.
What remains unclear
The public posts do not spell out the exact eligibility rules, the precise limits refreshed for every plan, or a single completion timestamp for every account. Those details can differ by plan, region and workspace, so the Settings → Usage screen remains the authoritative place for an individual account.
For the wire, the status is therefore Confirmed for the existence and completion of the reset announcement, while account-specific effects should be treated separately.
